Sometimes I think it’s ironic that I started a blog because I was going abroad, but it was never really a travel blog. Sure, sometimes I wrote about places I’d been and things I did, but it was never in a “you should go here/do this” sort of format. More of a “here’s a cool thing I did”.
I love travelling and exploring new places, being exposed to different cultures, admiring incredible architecture and of course trying the local food. But I wouldn’t say I’m a particularly good traveller in the way that travel bloggers are. I don’t take the time to take artsy photos in front of beautiful scenery, I usually forget to take photos of my food because I just tuck in when it arrives, and I find it hard to write about my travels without going into too much detail and making it too long a read.
If you read my last blog you’ll know that this year I have committed to writing and blogging much more frequently.
So three paragraphs in, what I’m trying to say is that this is (sort of) a travel blog post.

As I went through my usual process of determining what I’d next write about (waiting for inspiration to hit me) I was struggling to think of a good idea. I had some other pieces in the pipeline but I wanted to write something that was light-hearted.
The only thing I kept coming back to was my recent long weekend in Queenstown. I’ve been lucky to do quite a bit of travelling since being back in NZ (as a couple of friends have said to me “you’re always on holiday!”), so why not share it to give inspiration to fellow kiwis, and a bit of hope to anyone who still can’t travel yet?
But I’m not a travel blogger! So what would I write about?

Do I tell people how beautiful Queenstown is in autumn when the leaves on the trees are changing colours and the surrounding mountains are becoming snow-capped?
Or should I write about the great food we ate, giving special mention to Blue Kanu and Amisfield Winery?
Would readers be interested to hear about our morning trip up the unreasonably steep gondola to have breakfast with a beautiful backdrop of Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu, before enjoying the sights further from the empty viewing platform?
Do I mention that we didn’t get ourselves a famous Fergburger, but instead we tried the Ferg & Cheese Pie, and it was one of the best pies I’ve had?
Or perhaps I could just ramble on asking rhetorical questions that sort of outline what we did and what I recommend, and pop a few of pictures in there for good measure…

If you’re still reading this: thank you, and congratulations on making it this far. Whatever writing I publish, whether deep and thoughtful or just a little silly, I hope it is a little ray of sunshine in your day.
Queenstown is a truly beautiful part of New Zealand, and there is a reason it is such a popular destination. I’m grateful to have been able to spend a few days there recently, and if you’ve had the opportunity to visit, I’d love to hear your favourite parts.

That’s all for now,
